Quick Answer: Any USB or Bluetooth keyboard can type in the PS5’s menus, per Sony’s support page, but in-game it only works in titles that enable keyboard and mouse. HORI’s compatibility list marks Fortnite, Call of Duty, Battlefield 6, Final Fantasy XIV and Warframe as working, and Apex Legends, Valorant and Overwatch 2 as not. For those supported shooters, the best keyboard for PS5 is the Wooting 80HE (about $199.99): wired, with rapid trigger that runs on the keyboard itself. The Redragon K631 HE ($39.99) is the budget rapid-trigger pick, the Sony-licensed HORI TAC ($129.99) is the one-handed keypad, and the Keychron V1 Max ($114.99) is the wireless pick for couch typing.

Here’s what most PS5 keyboard guides skip: the console will accept almost any keyboard, but most games won’t use it. Plugging in a keyboard doesn’t add gameplay support to a game that lacks it. Battlefield 6 and the seven Call of Duty titles on HORI’s PS5 list accept it. Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege and the console version of Valorant don’t. So start with the games you play, then pick the board.

By the numbers: HORI’s software compatibility list for its Sony-licensed Tactical Assault Commander marks 15 of the 23 PS5 games it lists as working with keyboard and mouse, and 8 as not. Sony’s support page covers USB and Bluetooth keyboards, but it also states plainly that “not all devices work with your console.” Square Enix lists a DualSense controller as “Required” for Final Fantasy XIV on PS5, with mouse and keyboard as “Optional Support.” And on February 2, 2026, Activision’s RICOCHET team said Cronus Zen and XIM Matrix adapters “are not permitted in Call of Duty,” with new detections that look at input timing rather than the plugged-in device.

1. Wooting 80HE — Best Overall for Fortnite and Call of Duty

Wooting 80HE

Best overall · hall-effect · rapid trigger · wired USB-C · TKL · about $199.99
  • Hall-effect switches with adjustable actuation and rapid trigger, configured in Wootility and saved to the keyboard, so the board behaves the same on a PS5 as on the PC you set it up with.
  • Wooting publishes a dedicated help article on using its keyboards with PlayStation, Xbox or a PC BIOS (last updated August 14, 2026). It says console problems often come down to key rollover, commonly limited to six keys (6KRO), and shows the nKRO toggle in Wootility's Keyboard Settings.
  • Wired only, which suits a console: no battery, no pairing, nothing to drop out mid-match. It's also the board we rank first in our best keyboard for Fortnite guide.

Buying a keyboard and a mouse for the PS5 at the same time? A free 30-day Prime trial gets both to your door in two days, so you can test them in your own games before the return window closes.

The Wooting 80HE is the pick if you play Fortnite or Call of Duty with keyboard and mouse on PS5 and want the same edge PC players have. Rapid trigger resets a key the moment you start to lift it, which matters for strafing and Fortnite’s build-and-edit sequences. Because the keyboard’s firmware makes that decision and sends normal key signals, it works on the console the same way it does on a PC. Two caveats. Wooting’s console guide doesn’t cover its analog gamepad mode, so treat it as a regular keyboard on PS5. And if keys misbehave, turn nKRO off first. For more hall-effect options, see our best rapid trigger keyboard guide.

2. Redragon K631 HE — Best Budget Rapid Trigger

Redragon K631 HE (Castor)

Best budget rapid trigger · hall-effect · 65% · wired USB-A to USB-C · $39.99
  • Redragon's own listing promises hall-effect magnetic switches with actuation adjustable from 0.1mm to 4.0mm, and notes that the actual effect at 0.1-0.2mm "may be affected by the normal tolerances of the components."
  • Rapid trigger is switched on "via software." Redragon has added a web-based driver alongside its Windows app, so you can set it up from a browser on any computer before moving the board to the console.
  • $39.99 on Redragon's US store when we checked, with a detachable USB-A to USB-C cable.

At $39.99, the K631 HE puts adjustable actuation and rapid trigger on a PS5 for a fifth of the Wooting’s price. Its 65% layout drops the function row and numpad, which leaves more room for a mouse on a lap desk or coffee table. Redragon advertises 8,000Hz polling, but that’s a PC spec. Sony publishes no polling rate for PS5 keyboards, so don’t pay extra for it on console. Set your actuation and rapid trigger on a computer first, then unplug and replug the board to confirm the settings stuck before you take it to the PS5. 3. HORI Tactical Assault Commander (TAC) for PS5 — Best Sony-Licensed Keypad

HORI TAC Mechanical Keypad for PS5 (SPF-030U)

Best Sony-licensed · one-handed mechanical keypad · analog stick · wired USB-A · $129.99
  • "Officially Licensed by Sony," per HORI USA's listing, which prices it at $129.99. It works with PS5, PS4 and Windows PC, and HORI's manual notes that PC use isn't tested or endorsed by Sony.
  • LED-backlit mechanical keys, a working analog stick, an adjustable palm rest and a 3.5mm headset jack. Its manual lists W 135 × D 225 × H 56 mm, 385g including the 3.0m USB-A cable.
  • Mouse not included. Plug a wired or USB-dongle mouse into the keypad's own USB port. Bluetooth mice must pair to the console directly, and buttons beyond five won't respond.

The TAC is for players who want a console-first device rather than a desk keyboard on the couch. It sits in one hand with a mouse in the other, and it’s the only pick here with Sony’s licensing. HORI’s companion app saves up to six profiles per console, and a System Select switch underneath chooses PS5, PS4 or keyboard mode. Set it before plugging in, because the manual warns it won’t work properly in the wrong mode. HORI also warns against connecting it through a USB hub. One thing it can’t do is add keyboard support to a game that lacks it: the manual says plainly that it works only with keyboard-and-mouse-enabled titles. For PC-oriented one-handed boards like the Razer Tartarus, see our best one-handed keyboard guide.

4. Keychron V1 Max — Best Wireless and Couch Typing

Keychron V1 Max

Best wireless · 75% with knob · 2.4GHz + Bluetooth 5.1 + wired · 4000mAh · $114.99
  • Tri-mode: 2.4GHz receiver, Bluetooth 5.1 or a cable, with a 1000Hz polling rate and a 4000mAh battery rated for up to 190 hours, per Keychron's spec sheet.
  • Gasket-mounted, hot-swappable Gateron Jupiter Red, Brown or Banana switches with double-shot PBT keycaps. Remapping runs through QMK/VIA and Keychron's Launcher web app.
  • $114.99 fully assembled on Keychron's store, or $94.99 as a barebone kit without switches and keycaps.
Check price on Amazon →

If you mainly want a keyboard for the PS5’s search bar, party chat and the occasional Final Fantasy XIV session from the sofa, wireless matters more than rapid trigger. Use the 2.4GHz receiver on the console. It plugs into a USB port like a wired board, and you can keep Bluetooth paired to a laptop or phone. Sony says Bluetooth keyboards can pair too, but also that not all devices work, so the receiver is the safer default. The 75% layout keeps the arrow keys and a knob in a footprint that fits on a lap. For more cable-free boards, see our best wireless mechanical keyboard guide.

5. Redragon K552 Kumara — Cheapest Wired Keyboard for Typing

Redragon K552 Kumara

Cheapest wired · mechanical TKL · 87 keys · Outemu switches · roughly $35-45
  • Tenkeyless, 87-key mechanical board with a metal-alloy and ABS frame and rainbow LED backlighting, per Redragon's listing.
  • Redragon lists "all 87 keys" as conflict-free with n-key rollover. If any keys misbehave on the console, that's the setting to check first.
  • $44.99 list on Redragon's US store, where it was sold out when we checked. It usually sells for roughly $35-45 on Amazon.
Check price on Amazon →

If all you want is to stop typing passwords and messages one letter at a time with a controller, any plain USB keyboard will do, and the K552 is a real mechanical one for very little money. It needs no software and no pairing. Plug it in and type. It has no rapid trigger or adjustable actuation, so step up to the K631 HE if you also plan to play Fortnite or Call of Duty with it.

Which PS5 games actually accept a keyboard

This is the table to check before you buy anything. It comes from HORI’s software compatibility list for the TAC keypad, which is a Sony-licensed device. HORI notes that support “may change due to the future software updates,” so treat it as a starting point and check the control settings in each game.

The irony for keyboard buyers: Valorant is the game that made rapid trigger famous on PC, yet HORI lists its PS5 version as not supporting keyboard and mouse. If Valorant, Apex or Overwatch 2 is your main game, a keyboard on PS5 is a typing accessory, not a gaming upgrade.

USB, 2.4GHz or Bluetooth: what the PS5 accepts

ConnectionWhat Sony / HORI sayOur take for PS5
Wired USBSony: "Connect your USB or Bluetooth keyboard to your PS5 console"Most reliable. Best for competitive play.
2.4GHz USB receiverNot named by Sony. HORI's TAC manual supports a "Wireless mouse (USB dongle type)" through its keypadPlugs into USB like a wired board. Best wireless option.
BluetoothSony: pair via Settings > Accessories > General > Bluetooth Accessories; HORI: Bluetooth mice must connect to the console, not the TACFine for typing. Check compatibility before relying on it for games.

Why we don’t recommend Cronus Zen or XIM adapters

Search for “keyboard and mouse for PS5” and you’ll find adapters that make a keyboard and mouse look like a controller, so they work in games without native support. Activision’s position on them is blunt. Its RICOCHET anti-cheat post of February 2, 2026 says “unapproved third-party devices like Cronus Zen and XIM Matrix have no place in Call of Duty” and calls them “cheating tools, even if they masquerade as accessibility devices,” because they “exploit aim assist.” The same post says Season 02 detections “focus on how inputs behave, not which device is plugged in,” by analyzing input timing, consistency and response patterns. The safe route is the one in the table above: use keyboard and mouse only in games that support it natively.

How to set up a keyboard on PS5

  1. Wired or 2.4GHz: plug the cable or receiver into a USB port on the console.
  2. Bluetooth: put the keyboard in pairing mode, then go to Settings > Accessories > General > Bluetooth Accessories and select it, per Sony.
  3. Tune it: under Settings > Accessories > Other Accessories, set the keyboard language, Key Repeat (Delay) and Key Repeat (Rate). Mouse handedness and pointer speed are in the same menu.
  4. Enable it in-game: in Fortnite, Call of Duty and other supported titles, check the game’s input or controls settings for keyboard-and-mouse options.
  5. Troubleshoot: if some keys don’t register, switch the keyboard from NKRO to 6KRO (Wooting explains why in its console guide; our n-key rollover explainer covers the difference).

How to choose a keyboard for PS5

The bottom line

The PS5 accepts almost any USB or Bluetooth keyboard for typing, but only some games accept it for play. Fortnite, Call of Duty, Battlefield 6, Final Fantasy XIV and Warframe do. Apex Legends, Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege and Overwatch 2 don’t, per HORI’s compatibility list. For the supported shooters, the Wooting 80HE (about $199.99) is the best keyboard for PS5, with rapid trigger built into the board. The Redragon K631 HE brings the same feature for $39.99, the Sony-licensed HORI TAC ($129.99) is the one-handed console option, the Keychron V1 Max ($114.99) is the wireless pick for the couch, and the Redragon K552 covers basic typing for roughly $35-45. Skip Cronus Zen and XIM adapters: Activision explicitly classes them as cheating tools. For the wider field, see our best gaming keyboard pillar.
